Main types of cabin modules

The type of structure is determined by its field of use. Construction cabins are intended for organising welfare facilities for staff on site. Garden cabins are lightweight structures for utility needs or seasonal leisure at a country house.

A separate category is the security guard cabin. It must provide a good view of the site, have windows, lighting and heating, and be compact in size: typical models occupy 1.5×1.5 m and 2.3×2.3 m and are fitted with three windows. Such structures are usually placed next to entrances to enterprises, car parks, warehouse complexes and construction sites. For access control and the work of security staff, modular security posts are also used. These posts can be adapted to the features of a particular site, with the required windows, doors and engineering utilities.

For retail and the service sector there is a separate format — a retail pavilion measuring 6×3 or 6×4.8 m. Unlike a site cabin, it is designed from the outset for customer flow: increased width, shop-window glazing and a fascia for signage. It suits small shops, coffee outlets, collection points and service premises. Equipment is selected to match the specifics of the business: counters, display cases, refrigeration equipment, storage shelving. When the location changes, the pavilion is transported as a whole, without dismantling.

Standard site cabin sizes

The choice of size is determined by operational requirements and capacity. The most common versions are 4×2.4 m and 6×2.4 m. The difference in dimensions has a significant effect on the ergonomics of the interior space:

1. Models of 4×2.4 m (about 9.6 m²) are designed for minimal staff numbers: a changing room, a store room or a workplace for one or two people. They are easier to place on sites with limited free space.
2. Models of 6×2.4 m (about 14.4 m²) offer wider layout options, including the installation of a partition and the creation of separate zones, which makes them preferable for arranging full working places or accommodating a team.

Separate sizes are provided for specialised tasks. Security posts are more compact than the base range — 1.5×1.5 and 2.3×2.3 m, with three windows for an all-round view of the site. Office modules, by contrast, are larger and wider: 7×2.5 m with two windows and 9×2.5 m with three.

When the area of the base models is not enough, enlarged and bespoke structures are used: a 6×4.8 m footprint with three windows, versions with a 6×2.4 m terrace, or the joining of several blocks into a single space of the required configuration.

Layout and finish options

The interior layout is variable, but the scope for zoning depends directly on the dimensions: in a 6×2.4 m module a partition makes it possible to separate a changing room and a rest area, whereas in a 4×2.4 m unit it is more rational to keep a single space. The number and position of windows are also selected for the specific task: offices need maximum natural light, while security posts need a good view of the site. The choice of finishing materials (OSB or laminated chipboard) and the equipment package (electrics, heating, furniture) depend on the functional purpose of the module.

Thanks to their mobility and adaptability, site cabins find application across a wide range of industries. They are easily converted into comfortable offices, fully equipped workshops or pleasant rest areas. As storage units, such modules protect property from precipitation and unauthorised access, while as retail outlets or security posts they combine an attractive appearance, functionality and convenience for staff and customers. This is a rational choice when space needs to be organised quickly and efficiently without the added cost of permanent construction.

How to choose the right site cabin

Start your selection with the intended purpose. It is not worth buying the same structure for an office, a store and staff accommodation, since the requirements for each of these spaces differ.

When choosing, it is worth taking into account:

• the number of people who will be inside at the same time;
• the required floor area and number of rooms;
• the duration and seasonality of use;
• the need for insulation and heating;
• the number of windows and doors;
• the need for electricity, water and other utilities;
• the possibility of relocating the structure later;
• requirements for the interior and exterior finish.

In some cases it is more cost-effective to rent a construction site cabin, especially if the site will be in use for several months. For long-term use, on the contrary, purchasing the structure may prove the more rational decision.
